Designer of the Month – Trisha Wood

Jewellery maker Trisha Wood takes her inspiration from the sea in her creations, which contain tiny gems, crystals, enamel and resin in a stylish and contemporary style. Learn more about this month’s Designer of the Month below
Let us know a bit about yourself, detailing your background, study and training in the jewellery making industry.
Hi my name is Trisha Wood and my background is in social care, Palliative Care. I am an Energy Healer too. I am a self taught artist which morphed into painting and making jewellery. I make memorial jewellery. I infuse loved one ashes and pet fur or hair into the enamel. Making them specially designed not ‘just’ an ashes jewellery piece.
Tell us about your work – are there any particular materials or techniques that you favour?
I work mainly with silver and I love working with enamel. I love the way it it lets you know how it wishes to finish!
I use a lot of tiny gems and crystals to enhance the colours of the enamel, amethyst being the most popular then finishing of with high gloss resin.
How would you best describe your design style?
I describe my designs as stylish and contemporary.
Where do you like to get your inspiration from for your pieces?
I get my inspirations from my energy healing. I use the chakra colours as inspiration plus a great love of nature. I resonate with sea and majority of my work is coloured aqua blue

Do you have a piece that you have made which you favour or are particularly proud of?
I designed a 4 setting lovely heavy contemporary ring. I wanted to make something where I could add all my favorite colours in one piece and offer to my memorial clients something more bespoke and contemporary than the ‘same choice across the internet’ for ashes jewellery.
I love it. It turned out just as how I imagined. A true statement piece full of my personality!
What is the one item in your jewellery making workshop that you could not live without?
May surprise some people but my mini spirit level! Working with resin I am meticulous about it setting even and level. I use it every day.

What upcoming trends do you see being popular soon?
I have seen an increase in ashes being imbedded into silver whilst in the making process. Gives a mottled effect with the finished piece, more discrete and very effective. Feathers are a popular request too. A comforting message from a loved one
What is the most valuable lesson you have learnt from your time in the jewellery making industry?
My most valuable lesson whilst making is patience. I am a terrible prodder! Enamel and Resin can not be rushed.
Most importantly trust my gut instinct too. Time and patience is most important in our field, somethings just cannot be rushed.
If a client requires something yesterday, that is their lack of timing, not mine!.
Do you have any particular advice that you would give to up and coming jewellery designers, or someone interested in getting into jewellery making?
Advice I would give to someone thinking of getting into jewellery is be true to yourself, be yourself. Follow your passion. Be patient and practice loads!
