Different Types and Colors of Gold

What Is Gold?   Gold is a soft, yellow metal. Like all other metals, gold is also highly malleable and ductile. Moreover, gold is able to conduct both electricity and heat rather easily. Our chemical symbol for gold, au comes from the Latin word “aurum”.   Gold is a member of the transition metals and sits in the same periodic table column as silver and copper. The group that gold can be found in is often termed the ‘coinage metal’ group since its members are frequently used to produce money. Gold is, in fact, one of the first metals known to man with its origin being dated back to 3400 BCE by the Egyptians.   Brief History of Gold   The earliest evidence of gold comes from 3,600 BC. By about 600 BC people were making gold coins. People have always plundered gold from other nations. The Vikings plundered monasteries in Europe of gold and jewels. The Aztecs and the Incas also had gold – until they were conquered by the Spanish. The New World provided Spain with huge amounts of treasure. In the 16th century 150,000 kilograms of gold and 7.4 million kilograms of silver were shipped to Spain. In England in the mid 17th century people sometimes deposited their money with goldsmiths for safety. The goldsmith’s issued a note promising to pay the bearer a certain sum on demand. In time people began to exchange these notes instead of coins because it was easier and safer. Goldsmiths began to lend the money deposited with them in return for a high rate of interest. They also paid interest...

A Macho Home on Guys

A Macho Home on Guys

A Brief History of Male Jewelry In ancient Rome, the average man would have loved to wear jewelry  but he was forbidden by the rule of law. In Western society, wearing earrings were considered womanish during the 19th and earlier half of the 20th century. Why mens jewelry is important? A man’s jewelry is a very important part of his ensemble. If he wears too much, he looks assuming or artificial. If he wears it correctly, the decoration can significantly increase his appeal. 4 Rules for Men When Wearing Jewelry  Keep It Simple When in doubt, keep it simple.  Start with a classic leather-strapped silver watch; if you regularly wear a watch and can afford it, consider a sportier diving watch with a stainless steel band as well.  Match Metals Most men’s jewelry is metallic. Gold and silver tones are the most common.  Your outfits should only feature one metal tone at a time. Gold is a warmer color and reads, predictably. Silver and silver-tone metals like polished stainless steel or chrome are neutral – they read as grays.  Copper and bronze are orange-hued metals and should be treated as such.  They’re bolder than gold or silver and need to be worn with restraint. A single color of stone on a ring or a single colored ear stud is the max.  Understand Jewelry’s Symbolism Jewelry has meaning. You can’t get away from this.  Despite it taking up only a tiny percent of your visual presentation, people zero in on jewelry thanks to its flash and uncommon usage by men. That means a man has to be careful when wearing jewelry...
VIKING AGE SILVER JEWELRY FOUND ON THE ISLAND OF SYLT IN THE NORTH SEA

VIKING AGE SILVER JEWELRY FOUND ON THE ISLAND OF SYLT IN THE NORTH SEA

Back in 2015, a local farmer located a piece of silver jewelry along the coast of Sylt, located in the North Sea. Upon retrieval, the farmer’s family relinquished the piece of jewelry unto their family doctor, who was able to confer with local archaeologists. The area had been determined, and a continued dig had commenced. It was confirmed that the silver jewelry artifact was dated for the tenth century. Over one-hundred and eighty pieces of jewelry were recovered from the island, coming in at a total weight of one kilogram. Ingots, as well as coins, were also found, as well as bracelets, finger ringers, and one neck ring. Given the past associated with Vikings, it’s not completely out of the question that they would have plundered loot from various sources, and carried it with them across the North Sea. A rough translation of old English puts “pirate” and “Viking” in the same light, as well. Claus von Camap-Bornheim, head of the state archaeologists’ office, had the following to say: “This is one of the largest ever silver treasure troves from Schleswig-Holstein.” There’s no telling what the rest of the island of Sylt holds. Excavations are underway. It is significant in understand the last millennium of our global history. In the future, these finds shall be showcased in a permanent exhibition at the State Archaeological Museum, centrally located within the city limits of Schleswig. It is not confirmed at this time if this exhibition will be available for daily view from the public, or if they shall remain event...
GOLD RISING HAS A WORLDWIDE IMPACT ON THE JEWELRY MARKET

GOLD RISING HAS A WORLDWIDE IMPACT ON THE JEWELRY MARKET

The price of gold is synonymous with global markets. There are very few valuable metals or gems that can be considered “global currency,” though throughout history, Gold has always been just that. Widely accepted everywhere, with an often volatile market. In nations like India and China, we’re seeing a rise in gold prices all across the board, especially from 2016. The demand for jewelry is elevating, bringing in a higher demand for everybody’s favorite setting—gold. The Worldwide Impact India and China have the seventh and second largest economies, respectively, per the rating of the United Nations. With such a hefty stake in the global economy, their set prices for gold affect the rest of the world. Using both India and China as examples, here’s how their shifts in prices may affect gold prices for the rest of the world in 2017. India’s Impact In 2016, India faced a great financial shock in the form of demonetization. With their recovery gaining slowly—the way national recovery should regain momentum—we’re seeing their effects take place on the world’s economy in the gold market. Gold prices leapt up 16% from the previous year’s detrimentally low levels, signifying that the market conditions are changing, and changing for the better. This has jewelry retailers rejoicing, ensuring that their businesses will stay afloat after all. When the Rupee suffers, the rest of the economy suffers. The RBI specifically eased on their laws, allowing residents to withdraw larger sums of money with fewer restrictions, with the hopes of surging the economy in a similar fashion to George W. Bush’s famous move back in 2007 in the United...
DON’T THROW OUT YOUR COSTUME JEWELRY!

DON’T THROW OUT YOUR COSTUME JEWELRY!

Next time you’re going through an old box of ornamental, seemingly cheap and worthless jewelry, you might want to take another look (or better yet, have a jewelry appraisal expert take a look)—you may be surprised on how much your junk costume jewelry is really worth! Costume jewelry, by definition, is jewelry crafted from cheaper materials and/or mock gemstones. But according to Erik Hoyer, co-owner of EJ’s Auction & Consignment and J. Levine Auction & Appraisal, there’s a certain style of this vintage jewelry originating from the 1920s and booming in the ‘50s that could be worth a pretty penny, depending on the quality and craftsmanship. Upon a recent visit to a woman’s house to sort through unwanted items for an auction, he thumbed through a box full of jewelry the woman had deemed worthless and made a few surprising discoveries. “I quickly scanned what she had,” said Hoyer, “…and started pulling out pieces that weren’t, in fact, cheap costume jewelry but actually well-known brands. Some contained 14-karat gold.” The woman, who’s box of jewelry had been passed down from her grandmother, was quite delighted in finding out that some of her “outdated, junk jewelry” was actually worth hundreds of dollars. And who wouldn’t be? So before you donate that box of Granny’s old rings and necklaces from the ‘50s to your local Goodwill, you might want to consider having someone experienced in jewelry appraisal to a quick gander at the goods. It doesn’t even have to be gold! Many vintage pieces are worth some serious cash without having any gold in them at all. You can also scan...
TAYLOR SWIFT TUB OF DIAMONDS – REAL OR FAKE?

TAYLOR SWIFT TUB OF DIAMONDS – REAL OR FAKE?

Apparently the only thing fake about Taylor Swift’s eyebrow-raising bath in a tubful of diamonds was the act of bathing itself… Maybe. On August 27, 2017 pop star Taylor Swift released a music video for her single “Look What You Made Me Do” on YouTube, which has racked up almost 130 million views in just a week. Now, Swift is no stranger to going above and beyond in the production of her music videos and this one does not stray from that trend. But there’s one scene that stands out that gave the celebrity gossipers plenty to talk about—Ms. Swift submerged in a bathtub of sparkling, shining diamonds. The video starts off in a cemetery, presenting an undead Taylor Swift bursting through the ground like multi-millionaire zombie seeking revenge on some unsuspecting boys that broke her heart. If that’s not ridiculous enough, the video then juxtapositions to Swift in the recently iconic scene of her bathing in diamonds, which raised the question many tabloids were asking: “Wait, were those real?” The answer: “Yes. Well, kind of.” According to Neil Lane, an infamous jeweler known for supplying celebrities with extravagant bling for award ceremonies, outings, and now music videos, all of the diamond jewelry that Taylor Swift is wearing is 100% real. But as for the shiny jewels covering Swift’s naked body? Eh, not so sure about that. Some of the same sources that are asking these questions are also claiming that the net worth of the diamonds Taylor Swift “bathed” in were worth in upwards of $10 million. That being said, an authentic diamond necklace alone like the one...
